Q: Will my insurance pay for a lift chair? Q: What kind of medical supplies do you have? A: Family Home Medical’s 8,000 square foot showroom has a diverse selection of medical supplies. They range from basic canes, walkers, wheelchairs, and lift chairs, to incontinence, wound care, urology, compression therapy, bathroom aids, and orthopedic bracing. We have visited many DME (durable medical equipment) companies all over the country, and we have more options and products to choose from than any other company we have seen. Visit our showroom or our website to explore the wide variety of options that we have available. Q: Do you carry mastectomy (after breast surgery), supplies and can you bill my insurance for them? A: Yes we carry mastectomy supplies and with the right documentation from the Doctor our billing staff will be happy to bill your insurance carrier. We have a mastectomy fitter on hand Monday through Friday who can take your calls and questions on a daily basis. Q: Are you in network with my insurance? A: We are in network with a variety of insurance companies. Medicare, Highmark Blue Shield, Health America, Capital Blue Cross, Access, Gateway, and Unison are some of the most common insurances, but there are many more that we are in network with. If you have insurance other than the ones listed above, please speak to our Billing Department. They will be happy to work with you to determine if we can work with your insurance or not. Q: Will my insurance pay for this? A: This is a complicated question, not only because there are so many items that are and are not covered by each insurance company. We must first obtain an order in the form of a prescription from your doctor to determine if the patient qualifies. Rule of thumb is, if the product is truly medically necessary and is for “in home” use, then it is probably considered to be a medical device and should have some consideration for coverage from your insurance company. Q: Will my insurance pay for a lift chair? A: Most insurance companies will pay for the lifting mechanism of a lift chair only. The philosophy here is that furniture is not a medical device, though the lifting mechanism housed within the lift chair is. Because there are several potential obstacles that stand between qualifying for this coverage and being denied for it, here is how Family Home Medical handles this: The patient pays for the full amount of the chair. To begin the billing process we need to have an ordering prescription from a treating physician for a “lift chair”. Then we forward a certificate of medical necessity to the prescribing physician that contains several questions that the doctor will answer. Next we submit the claim to the insurance company. We cannot guarantee this coverage, though most claims we file do get reimbursed with the amount for the lifting device. 1 Sprint Drive, Carlisle, PA 17015 • 717-249-8051 • FAX: 717-243-9423 Home | About Us | Complex Rehab | About Complex Rehab Products & Services | Complex Rehab Q&A | Home Modifications | About Home Modifications Products & Services | Home Modifications Q&A | Medical Equipement | About Medical Equipment Products & Services | Medical Equipment Q&A | After Breast Surgery | Contact Us | Admin |
